"Blouse Roumaine" - Extracts from the Book .................................................................................................. selected and introduced by Constantin Roman. Anca Visdei (1) .................................................................................................. (Born Bucharest - Living in Switzerland) Lawyer, Academic, Playwright, Journalist, Exile 1. Abortion: "I must be pregnant with Romania..." "There are two ways in which one could terminate effectively this gestation, that of being at peace with the world and with myself, to have children who are of Romanians (although they live in a different linguistic, psychologic and geographic environment) and to produce an oeuvre which perhaps more than half of it deals with the theme of exile, of Romania and of ones inner self. Therefore, this is my personal manner in whch I am trying to elliminate this mental 'overspill' of a memory which is amputated of its geographic roots." refering to her play "Puck en Roumanie" in an interviw with Radu Negrescu-Sutu, "Romania Libera", 31 Oct. 2001, Bucharest) -------------------------- Biography: At the celebrated Parisian experimental theatre , "La Huchette", on the "Rive Gauche", Ionescos' plays - "The Bald Primadonna" and "The Lesson" have been played for over fourty years now and it maybe not alltogether fortuitous that Anca Visdei, another Romanian exile and playwright had her plays staged here. Predicatbly "Puck en Roumanie" had also chosen Romania as a backdrop, like the "Rhynoceros" had done previously in a transparent way. Romanian-born Anca Visdei, graduated from the Institute of Cinematography in Bucharest, after which she became an exile in Switzerland, where she completed her Law studies. Thereafter she reverted to Drama classes and a career as a Professor of Drama Studies, a playwright and journalist. Anca Visdei is the author of over thirty plays, played all over the world, but not in her native Romania, even after the fall of Ceausescu. She explains this phenomenon, not uncommon amongst exiles, according to which her message may still be considered to being "too violent" for the home-grown public.
